Quote

The course of our lives is seldom determined by great, life-altering decisions. Out direction is often set by the small day-to-day choices that chart the track on which we run. This is the substance of our lives. –Gordon B Hinckley

Affirmations Affirmations are a powerful tool that we can use to help condition our subconscious mind to start interpreting things the way we want to see them. They are positive, short, and simple phrases you say out-loud about yourself.  By daily use they open up to us some wonderful possibilities to improve how we see and experience our lives. Learn to play with it in the right way, and you can shift from unhappy to happy, from unsuccessful to successful, and from unlucky to lucky.

Thinking positively is not just a matter of interpreting things as sunny. It generates its own energy to attract positive occurrences into the reality around us. It is easy to see this when we consider the effects of negative and pessimistic thinking. A pessimist will cease to try because they do not believe in successful outcomes and because depression will often interfere with a person doing something even when success is guaranteed.

Affirmations can help us shift our interpretation of experiences and in this way helps us to alter our personal reality so that it is focused on more positive aspects, the parts that make us feel better, and the opportunities that will make us successful.

Write Your Own Affirmations

Think of a few things you want to change in yourself. Put them in “I am” sentences like this “I am Happy.” Keep it completely positive, no using the word ‘not.’ So if you want to not be scared any more don’t use “I am not scared,” try saying “I am courageous!”  Remember to keep them as simple as possible and only work on just a few at a time.

After you have picked your affirmations write them down using our affirmation card or a regular 3x5 card. If you make your own card make sure you leave a place to track when you say them, to judge your progress. After you have them written down place the card somewhere you see it often, 2 to 3 times a day at least.

To make them really effective I recommend saying them out-loud 3 times a day for a minimum of 2 weeks. It’s a little challenging and you might feel weird at first, but trust me, it really will change your outlook. Once you get started and see the success, keep going, when your ready write up a couple new ones.

Note: Adding a little extra enthusiasm when you say them goes along way, try not to get some repetitious. Trying putting the emphasis on different words and say it like you mean it.

Some more examples

“I am positive!”

“I am Successful!”

“I am beautiful/handsome!”

“I am smart!”

“I am funny.”

“I am great with woman.”
